About Your Instructor

 

Granville Mullings, Jr. is a husband, father and a drummer of 29 years.

 

Granville has studied with Joe Morello (Dave Brubeck), Richard Considine (Rudiment Grooves for Drum Set), Terri Lyne Carrington (Grammy Award Winning Artist, Herbie Hancock, Stan Getz, etc.), Yoron Israel (Ahmad Jamal), Dave DiCenso (Hiromi), and many others. He currently plays for rising artists Najee Omar, Kate Vargas, Elle Winston, India Carney; he is the bandleader for a new ensemble The MisUnderstanding. He's played with Fred Frith, Melvin Butler (Brian Blade Fellowship), Arturo O'Farrill, Ethan Gouldbourne (Emily King) and he's opened for Snarky Puppy, Donnie McClurkin, Sara Barreilles, Grace Potter, Fantasia and many others.

 

Granville has been teaching privately for over 15 years.  He's taught lectures at the University of Virginia, and he held an instructor position at Stevens School of Music & the Arts in Troy, VA. He's an alum of Berklee College of Music, where he studied Jazz Composition and Professional Music.

 

An enthusiam for teaching, idea sharing & growing potential are the driving factors behind Granville's mission in rhythm and music. He hopes to see his students break barriers in their playing and thus begin to have the courage to break barriers in their day to day lives.
